Finishing

Our finishes are a defining part of what sets MJR Home Solutions apart. We use world-class, water-based coatings manufactured in Italy by Alcea, a global leader in environmentally responsible finishing systems. These finishes provide exceptional durability, clarity, and protection — all while being safer for the environment and for those who work with them.

We take pride in the level of care and precision that goes into every piece we finish. Our process begins with premium base materials, such as high-density MDF and select hardwoods, to ensure a stable, smooth foundation. From there, each product moves through an intricate four-step

finishing process:

  1. Interior/Exterior Sealer – seals the surface to resist humidity and environmental changes, making our finishes suitable for any room in the home.

  2. 2K Primer – creates a perfectly flat surface, adds another layer of protection, and prepares the surface for topcoats.

  3. Two Coats of 2K Top Coat – applied and sanded between layers for a smooth, durable, and colour-consistent finish with a refined, professional sheen.

Our painted cabinetry and panels come standard with white melamine backs, which can be painted as an upgrade. Stain-grade and clear-coated finishes use premium hardwoods and water-based stains matched to any Minwax colour, followed by the same sealer and 1–2 coats of 2K topcoat depending on the application. Each layer is carefully sanded between coats to ensure smoothness and consistency.

For our wood countertops, we use Osmo TopOil, a premium hard-wax oil made from natural plant oils and waxes. This finish enhances the natural character of the wood while providing a durable, water-resistant, and food-safe surface once cured. It’s eco-friendly, easy to maintain, and readily available for touch-ups through suppliers like Lee Valley and Amazon, making long-term care simple for homeowners.

Because our process is extensive and quality-driven, environmental conditions such as humidity can occasionally affect spray timing and curing. Since our air system draws outside air, excessive humidity — such as on rainy days — can influence how predictably finishes cure and flow. While this may occasionally affect lead times, it ensures every product meets our high standards for finish quality and durability.
